Success by design! Like other apparel manufacturers, Canadian furriers now face serious challenges from producers in countries with much lower wage rates. In response, Canadian companies are using their unequalled skill with wild furs to develop lighter-weight products and an exciting “new look” in fur for everyday wear.
To encourage innovation, the Fur Council of Canada sponsors The Design Network. The list of participants reads like a “who’s who” of Canadian fashion: Nadya Toto, Simon Chang, Izzy Camilleri, Mackage design team Eliza Dahan and Eran Elfassy, Calgary designer Paul Hardy, plugged-in Toronto artist Christopher Estridge and many more.
The Fur Council of Canada also sponsors FurWorks Canada, a new “sportswear in fur” concept, produced by a dozen of Canada’s top manufacturers and designers, under the direction of Paris-based fashion-trends forecaster Richard H.
The Fur Council’s new Beautifully Canadian label now identifies high-quality furs made exclusively in Canada.
